Happy New Year Survey for Kids
New Year’s Eve is always a great opportunity to look back on the old year and forward to the new year. With kids, it’s a great time to make some keepsakes that document how things change over the year.
My daughter is 6, and she doesn’t fully understand the whole “year” concept, but she’s aware that a new one is starting soon, so we’ve started to explore the concept in different ways.
I made this printable Happy New Year Survey for Kids as a quick way to jot down some info about what’s going on right now that you can look back on whenever you want in the future. You can even fill it out again next year and every year, as it doesn’t mention any specific years.

Materials for Happy New Year Survey
PDF file (download below).- Printer.
- Paper cutter or scissors (optional).
- One sheet of paper.
- Pen.
What’s in the printable PDF file?
This is a one-page, no-prep printable. (You can trim the edges if you want, but it’s perfectly usable with the narrow white margin that the printer leaves.)
It has spaces for the child’s name, age, his or her best friend, favorite color, favorite book, favorite movie/show, favorite toy, favorite game, and favorite food. There are several blank lines for each of the prompts “The best part of the old year was” and “In the new year, I want to”.
Unsurprisingly, my 6-year-old insisted on filling in the blanks herself (with some spelling help from me). {She let me do the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day surveys earlier this year, but at this point, she wants to write EVERYTHING, and I love that she practices every day.} She didn’t really know which timeframe to think about for “the old year”, so I told her to think back over the past few months.
She decided that the best part of the old year was her birthday party and that in 2017, she wants to play with Daddy, N, and me <3
