Foam Cup Snowmen

 

E is a BIG fan of plastic and foam cups, and she’s been very intrigued by Pinterest images of foam cup crafts.

A while ago, we made a DIY Baby Toy for Baby N from a foam cup, and more recently, we tried painting foam cups with tempera paint to make pumpkins. Unfortunately, the paint just flaked off as it dried, so I figured we were better off sticking with unpainted foam cups until we find a type of paint that’s better suited to the job.

E also loves snowmen {check out our Puffy Snowmen craft from last year}, so I suggested we celebrate the beginning of winter by making Foam Cup Snowmen.

To make Foam Cup Snowmen, you’ll need:

• White foam cups.
• Black, green and orange construction paper.
• Glue. {We used Elmers Washable Gel School Glue, and it worked surprisingly well – I think most other types of glue should work as well, including glue sticks.}
• Paintbrush for the glue.
• Scissors.
• Small cup for the glue (and possibly the paper cuttings).

 

 

 

We gathered our materials, and E was quite interested.

I set it up so that we could each make our own craft, and just immediately got started cutting my construction paper scraps into random little squares and rectangles. I wanted to see what E made of the materials and the theme.

She insisted on getting an applesauce cup to hold her construction paper cuttings, and she absolutely needed to use the big scissors.

 

 

She showed off her favorite cuttings

 

 

before she started gluing them on her foam cup.

 

 

As you can probably already tell, she wasn’t feeling the snowman theme, though 😉

 

 

She went with the orange construction paper for her second foam cup.

 

 

And then she was done.

I finished up my snowman, and I have to say I thought it was really cute.

 

 

Meanwhile, E had fun with the process, she simply didn’t want to make a snowman – and that was quite alright!
