Wrapping Paper Ornaments

We had some left-over foil wrapping paper, and in our {well, this year it’s more mine – E is on a bit of a crafting hiatus for the most part this year 😉 } unending quest for more ornaments for our Christmas tree, I thought it would look nice inside a clear fillable ornament. I think it was the pretty wrapping paper that won E over, and she went along with my idea before giving it her own personal spin.

We each did our own wrapping paper ornament, and they ended up being very different from each other.

Materials for Wrapping Paper Ornaments:

E started cutting “right side” up

but soon noticed the lines on the back and switched to cutting squares along the lines.

I decided to cut squares as well, fold them in half for added volume, and put them into the ornament.

E decided to cut her squares into tiny pieces that she dropped directly in. {To keep the ornaments from rolling over, we put them on top of jar candles we had on hand that happened to fit them perfectly.}

At this rate, it would have taken a LOT of little pieces to fill up her ornament. I didn’t say anything but I think she figured it out and got bored with it.

She quickly regrouped and shook all the pieces back out of her ornament, then asked for some glue and a paintbrush.

She proceeded to brush a generous amount of glue onto her ornament, then stuck the bits of paper on.

She actually tried to put Santa back together but given the way she had cut her pieces, it didn’t work so well. {However, her idea inspired our DIY Wrapping Paper Puzzle activity.}

She ended up skipping the really small pieces and was satisfied when most of one side of the ornament was covered in bits of wrapping paper.

As a finishing touch, she cut off a length of ribbon, and after experimenting with tying it, she stuffed it inside her ornament.

She announced that her ornament was done, then grabbed another sheet of wrapping paper and started to cut it into squares to help me fill up my ornament 🙂

When we were done, we immediately hung our wrapping paper ornaments on E’s small tree {this is the first year she has one of her own to decorate as she pleases – she loves it} and were very pleased with how they looked.
