Super Simple Halloween Tree
At one point last week, I tried to make a fingerprint fall tree with E but she totally wasn’t feeling it, and it turned into (super fun!) hand painting and printing and general free exploration. {I put up a few images of this activity on Instagram if you’d like to check it out.}
This week, we’re on a bit of a roll with super simple Halloween crafts {like these Fingerprint Spiders}, and when I came across our Halloween confetti that we hadn’t yet used this year, I had the idea of making a Halloween Tree instead of that fall tree – not exactly true to nature but fun, simple, and the shimmering Halloween confetti gives it a special touch. E was delighted with this version.
(E was 3 years and 11 months old.)

To make your own Halloween Tree, you’ll need:
- Halloween confetti. {Stickers or foam shapes are a great alternative.}
- Glue stick. {White glue and a paintbrush could be used instead.}
- Paper {we used watercolor paper}.
- Liquid watercolors (optional). {I used them to paint the tree trunk but you could use any number of other art materials instead.}
I simply painted a tree trunk and branches on some watercolor paper. I thought I did a much better job with the liquid watercolors this year than with markers for last year’s fall tree craft 😉 It’s not a beauty contest, though – kids generally don’t mind at all, no matter how artistic you may or may not be.
I didn’t give any instructions except to say that she could imagine a real tree with Halloween items instead of leaves.
E decided to apply the glue stick to the paper instead of the individual pieces of confetti. She was very methodical with this craft, working in sections between the branches.
She chose to create rows of confetti that followed the curves of the branches
and added more glue as needed.
Having picked out individual pieces of confetti at first, she decided after a while that she’d like to pick out a whole bunch at once and put them down on the edge of the paper for easy access.
She turned the paper around to reach the other half of the tree more easily and put the finishing touches on.
I love it!
