Sibling Play with Green Sensory Soup
This is what happened after N’s Green Water Play for Toddlers activity: E jumped in, and it turned into Sibling Play with Green Sensory Soup!
Water play is always fun both for my toddler and my preschooler, it’s easy to set up, and it’s a great sensory activity for kids of different ages to do together.
You don’t even have to color the water every time. We’ve done plenty of activities with plain water {like this Garden Sensory Bin}. Even our Yellow Sensory Soup with Rubber Ducks simply used yellow items in plain water. This time however, we chose to turn the water green with fizzy bathtub colors.
(N was 1 year and 7Â months old.
E was 5 years and 3 months old.)

Materials for Sibling Play with Green Sensory Soup
- Water.
- Fizzy tub colors, liquid watercolors or food coloring.
- Green items you have on hand. We used LEGO, Easter eggs, heart bracelets, foam letters, plastic balls, pipe cleaners, and more.
- Water table (optional, but really awesome for sibling play).
- Utensils like a whisk, ladle, cups, bowls, a squeeze bottle, etc.
E immediately put her own spin on the activity. N had left some water in the squeezy bottle for her, and she used it wisely.
Cooking is her go-to idea when it comes to sensory play, and this time was no different. She made me some delicious soup in a tiny cup 🙂
After I’d “tasted” it and told her how delicious it was, she generously let N spill the water.
N hadn’t really looked at the foam letters while he was playing alone, but now he took a closer look, and E explained the letters to him. She LOVED that 🙂
Both kids’ favorite part of this activity was when E decided to put the LEGOs together and hand them to N to take them apart. Sibling play is great 😀
