Rainbow Bears Listen and Cover Game for Toddlers
As you know, toddlers love matching and placing items in certain spots. I’m always looking for ways my 2-year-old can do this in different ways and while learning a variety of skills.
The other day, I came up with a new idea that I knew would make a great printable, but I didn’t know what to call it. It was going to be a variation on roll and cover games {like this one} simplified for toddlers and also have similarities with matching games and I Spy games. I also couldn’t find anything similar on Google – possibly because I didn’t know what anyone would call it.
So I decided to make it simple and call it “listen and cover” – because it’s about my toddler listening to the color I call out and using a rainbow bear to cover a matching rainbow bear on the game board. Makes sense, right? Let’s see if it catches on 😉
Combined with one of N’s favorite toys, it’s a Rainbow Bears Listen and Cover Game!
{I did end up adding a custom die template because while those paper dice aren’t perfectly suited for my wild little guy yet, they’re generally super fun and a great way to add another dimension to this kind of game. So if you want, you can play a toddler roll and cover game, after all 😉 }

Materials for Rainbow Bears Listen and Cover Game
- Printable PDF file (below).
- Printer.
- Laminator, laminating pouches (optional).
- Paper cutter and/or scissors (if using the die).
- Glue stick or sticky tape (if using the die).
- Paper.
- Rainbow bears or other manipulatives.
What’s in the printable PDF file?
This is a no-prep printable if you stick to the listen and cover concept.
I included three different game boards depending on your kids’ attention span. One page shows six rainbow bear images in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. The second version has 12 total rainbow bears, two in each color, and the third has 18 rainbow bears, three in each color.Â
If you want to use the custom die, there’s a little bit of prep involved, but it’s really pretty easy {instructions are in the pdf file}, and I just love using this type of dice.
