Pine Cones and Acorns in the Water Table

We don’t really get fall leaves around here but we sure get plenty of pine cones and acorns. E really enjoyed exploring them in the water table!

For our activity with pine cones and acorns in the water table, we used

E set up her activity herself. She cleaned out the water table

before pouring some water

and adding the glass gems, pine cones and acorns.

I gave her a fizzy tub colors tablet in each color, and she put them all in the bottom compartment of the water table.

She noticed that mixing all three colors made a muddy greenish brown and rescued what was left of the blue tablet to put it in the top compartment.

She started scooping and dumping water with the measuring cups

before she remembered the new turkey baster and decided to try it out.

She quickly got the hang of filling the turkey baster and had fun squirting water from one water table compartment to the other

and into the measuring cups.

Her imagination turned the water into soup, and she pretended to taste it

before deciding it needed a certain something extra – the glass gems!

She went back to squirting

and dumping water, enjoying the feel of it running over her hand and through her fingers.

After this, she started exploring the pine cones

and acorns with her hands.

This acorn separated from the leaves

and after unsuccessfully trying to fix it, E decided to put the whole thing into a measuring cup and dump it at the other end of the backyard 😉

She spent some more time playing with and exploring her lose parts before she started the clean-up of her sensory activity.
