Paper Towel Stained Glass Hearts

I get such a kick out of being able to reuse materials from other projects! Bonus points if the other project was supposed to be process art, and it turns out that you can use it for something beautiful 🙂

We did a few different Valentine’s Day projects lately and had black construction paper scraps left over that we had cut hearts from. As I was picking up, they happened to lay on top of E’s Paper Towel Art, and it inspired me to make Paper Towel Stained Glass Hearts. E was busy, so I got a little crafting in myself 😉

 This was my inspiration:

The black construction paper made a perfect frame to make those colors pop!

From there, it was all quite simple.

First, I cut out the negative heart with scissors.

Then I put it on top of the paper towel to find the prettiest colors to fill the heart and roughly cut a rectangle from the paper towel to include those colors.

I put {a little too much} glue around the edges of the back of the heart “card”

and stuck the paper towel rectangle on.

I trimmed the edges and bent them away from the edge a little – you may want to trim it a little more before gluing it on, it was a little fiddly the way I did it, and my scissors weren’t really sharp enough to cut the paper towel easily.

Now all I needed to do was hang the Paper Towel Stained Glass Heart up in our window with sticky tape. The lowly paper towel looked so pretty with the light shining through 🙂
