Marbled Christmas Trees

I posted about the first of our marbled Christmas decorations the other day, Marbled Snowmen. They were different from the other marbled crafts we’d done before in that we used white paint on dark construction paper.

After that, we made Marbled Christmas Trees where we experimented with dripping liquid watercolors on top of the shaving cream after stirring in the main color.

 You’ll need:

  • Tempera paint.
  • Liquid watercolors.
  • Eye droppers.
  • Shaving cream.
  • Construction paper.
  • Chopstick, paintbrush or similar.
  • Tray or shallow plastic box.

For full instructions on the shaving cream marbling technique, read the Marbled Hearts post.

We started with green tempera paint that E swirled into the shaving cream as usual.

Then she used an eye dropper to put … ahem … “small drops” of liquid watercolors on top for ornaments {yes, she just turned three, those ARE small drops  to her 😉 }.

We didn’t stir after the liquid watercolors, and she pushed the construction paper down on top of the shaving cream as usual, then pulled it back to reveal her print.

Sure, her “ornaments” were a bit big but I still liked the results. {The prints are all from the same batch of shaving cream and paint.}

While the paper dried, we entertained ourselves making shaving cream hand prints 🙂

I made a template to cut out a few Christmas trees, and we both really liked them!

For this one, I positioned the template to get the a brown trunk.
