Farm Animal Sensory Bin with Real Grass

 

For a while, N played with different kinds of farm animals a lot. I set up sensory activities for him on most days, and one day, I made him a simple Farm Animal Sensory Bin with Real Grass to allow him to experience his LEGO animals in a different context.

N was 12 months old at the time, so just barely a toddler, and this would work great for older babies as well!

Materials for Farm Animal Sensory Bin with Real Grass

• Sensory bin. {As usual for babies and young toddlers, I used the shoebox size. He’ll graduate to a bigger box soon enough 😉 }
• LEGO DUPLO farm animals or other animals you have on hand. I also added a fence from the LEGO DUPLO Big Farm.
• Grass.
• Pine needles (optional).
• Tools. N just had a little shovel from the sandbox, but you can add whatever your child likes.

 

 I arranged everything in the sensory bin, with the grass, the bunnies, goat, dog, and sheep on one side of the fence and the pine needles, pig, and chickens on the other side.

 

 

N immediately started taking out the animals one by one. We talked about the different animals and what sounds they make.

 

 

He tried to work with the shovel at one point, and experimented with different ways of holding it,

 

 

but apparently, it didn’t work as he’d expected, and he went back to using his hands pretty quickly.

 

 

N checked out the grass, too, but I don’t think he looked thrilled about it 😉

 

 

For the most part, he just pulled out the grass and tossed it on the ground behind him 🙂
