DIY Baby Toy for Tummy Time

From day one, E has been very much in love with Baby N. She loves doing stuff for him and just being involved in his life but it wasn’t easy to find as many things she could do as she wanted to when he was a tiny baby. So we decided to do a simple little craft to make him a DIY Toy for Tummy Time.

To make our DIY Baby Toy for Tummy Time, you’ll need:

  • Foam cup. {We used white ones we had on hand but colorful foam or plastic cups would be a nice option, too.}
  • Sharpies.
  • Googly eyes (optional).
  • Glue (optional).
  • Stickers (optional).

Please note that using goggly eyes and stickers makes this NOT technically baby proof. They were E’s idea. We keep the toy away from N’s head (including where it lands once he gets tired keeping it up), and we’ll stop using it once N starts being able to use his hands while on his tummy. You can always just draw on the cup and skip the other decorations.

E and I decorated one foam cup each for N.

We started out with sharpies.

E saw me draw stripes on my cup, and she tried her own version.

When she was done with the sharpies, she decided to get some stickers to put on.

As a final touch, she glued on a few goggly eyes.

and mine.

E was very excited to get to give the cups to N, and was delighted when he kept looking at them 🙂

    Elmer’s glue will not hold those Google eyes. They will fall off quickly. I work with a lot of children’s crafts and I have quit using the Google eyes.

    1. You’re right, Susan, it’s not the most secure bond. I’d recommend only using this with babies who can’t reach for the toy yet. Otherwise, you should definitely skip the googly eyes and stickers.
