I made my first domino game recently {Rainbow Domino Addition 1-10}, and the idea went over really well with both of my kids. 2-year-old {for less than another month, where did the time go??!} N enjoyed just lining up the rainbows, but I knew I could make something for him that’s more his developmental level. That’s how this set of Color Matching Dominoes was born. He. fell. in. love <3
(N was 2 years and 11 months old.)

Materials for Color Matching Dominoes
- Free PDF file (below).
- Printer.
- Laminator, laminating pouches (optional).
- Paper cutter or scissors.
- Paper.
What’s in the printable PDF file?
The pdf file contains a single page to print out that includes 12 domino cards. Like with regular dominoes, the cards are split in the middle. 10 of the cards show two images in different colors, one has one image and the word “Start”, and the 12th card has one image and the word “Finish”.
I’ve used two images each in black, blue, brown, purple, green, pink, red, orange, white, gray, and yellow.
Print the page, laminate to make it more durable (optional), and cut it apart at the black lines. DO NOT cut along the dotted lines!
Start playing with the card that says “Start”, then line up the cards domino-style matching colors along the way until you get to the “Finish” card.
There’s only one way to line up the cards, and you won’t end up with extra cards.
My almost 3-year-old grasped the idea immediately and loved it, although as a huge (HUGE!) fan of jigsaw puzzles, he complained a bit about the “gaps” in the “puzzle” 😉 I wasn’t quite sure if he was going to be okay with turning cards upside down when he got to the edge of the table, but he didn’t mind that at all.
Do you have toddlers who love matching? I have a book of matching games for them!
In my book Match This! Matching Games for Toddlers, I share 30 different matching games that are perfect for toddlers with a limited number of matches (you can mix and match different sets for a greater challenge) and large cards that are easy to pick up and hold. I’ve included instructions for playing memory and matching games at all skill levels and how to extend the activity with other learning objectives for older kids.
