Day 11: Christmas Lights Shape Matching Clip Cards

It’s day 11 of the 24 Days of Christmas Printables for Toddlers series, and we’re almost halfway to Christmas Eve!

Earlier in the series {for day 5}, I shared these Reindeer Color Matching Clip Cards. They were N’s very first set. Clip cards undoubtedly work awesomely for a wide variety of learning objectives, but I wasn’t sure if N, who will be 2.5 next month, was going to get the idea AND have the fine motor skills to work the clothespins.

It turned out that he absolutely loved the reindeer cards, knew what to do with minimal instructions, and quickly figured out how to use the clothespins.
Building on that momentum, I’ve got a new set to share with you today: Christmas Lights Shape Matching Clip Cards.

Practice basic shape (and color!) recognition with these fun Christmas Lights Shape Matching Clip Cards! (Day 11 of 24 Days of Christmas Printables for Toddlers.)

(N was 2 years and 5 months old.)

Materials for Christmas Lights Shape Matching Clip Cards

  • Printer.
  • Laminator and laminating pouches.
  • Heavy paper.
  • Clothespins.
  • Paper cutter or scissors.

What’s in the Printable PDF File?

The printable focuses on the four most basic shapes: Square, rectangle, triangle, and circle.

Each card has one large shape and three smaller ones to pick the matching shape from. There are four different versions:

  1. All shapes in color, matching shapes have the same colors.
  2. Large shapes in color, small shapes in black and white.
  3. Large shapes in black and white, small shapes in color.
  4. All shapes in black and white.

After printing out the page(s) you want to use, it’s a good idea to laminate them to minimize the damage from the clothespins. Cut the page(s) apart at the black lines.

If your child isn’t ready for clothespins, you can use the cards to talk about the shapes and colors and point out matching shapes instead. Or work on top of a table and place manipulatives on the matching shapes.
