Baby Play with Soap Foam
Here’s our latest baby play activity: Baby Play with Soap Foam.
It’s a simplified version of the Colorful Soap Foam Sensory Bin that E played with when she was 2 – and that was a pretty simple activity already 😉
You most likely have the two materials you need on hand right now. It takes only minutes to set up this activity, and it’s very easy to clean up as well.
There isn’t a whole lot of water but you can expect your baby to need a change of clothes afterwards, at least a dry top. Alternatively, playing in just a diaper is a good option.
(N was 7 months old.)

Materials for Baby Play with Soap Foam:
- Baby body wash or shampoo. {N didn’t try to eat the soap foam or rub his face, though he did chew on the animals that had been in the foam; tear-free, baby-safe options are best, just in case.}
- A small amount of water.
- Bowl to mix the soap foam.
- Hand mixer.
- Bathtub foam animals (optional).
- Tray, cookie sheet or sensory bin with low sides to hold the soap foam (optional).
- Shower liner, vinyl tablecloth, tarp or similar to protect the surface baby is on (optional).
Use a hand mixer to foam up a squirt of baby soap and a tiny bit of water. It doesn’t take much of either material to make enough foam for baby play.
I put a vinyl tablecloth down for N to lie on and used a cookie sheet to hold the soap foam and a few of his bathtub foam animals.
Pretty much the first thing he did was overturn the cookie sheet 😉
Still, some foam and a couple of the bathtub animals remained on the cookie sheet.
N was most interested in one of the bathtub animals and spent some time examining it and chewing on it.
He felt and explored the soap foam that was still on the cookie sheet next.
The soap foam felt quite different on top of the vinyl tablecloth.
The foam animals were still a big attraction, and he spent some time checking out each one.
He felt them, inspected them closely, chewed on them and slid them around the soap foam.
