Super Simple Bathtub Art and Introduction to Letters
When E was a toddler, we did quite a few bathtub art activities. She doesn’t take many baths these days and when she does, it’s with N, and they’ve never experienced a boring moment when they’re together 😉
But when N is due for a bath by himself, he can be a little reluctant to get in. So I’ve started to whip up simple bathtub activities just for him, like this Super Simple Bathtub Art and Introduction to Letters. It was quick and simple, fun, sensory, and educational – a perfect activity 🙂

Materials for Super Simple Bathtub Art
- Washable paint (we used tempera paint).
- Container for the paint (optional).
Told you it was super simple 😉 If you wanted to, you could add some interest with a paintbrush, but N stuck to fingerpainting.
If you don’t want to use a container for the paint, you could just put a little paint on the edge of the bathtub and let your kids take it from there.
I used a muffin tin with paint in three of the cavities, and N immediately submerged the whole thing in the water 😉
Next, he started to explore the paint with his fingers. The soap foam made it even more interesting 🙂
Once N had started fingerpainting the sides of the tub, I joined in and wrote some letters for him.
He thought that was pretty amusing and listened intently to what I told him about the letters but at the same time, he was ready to rub out and even wash away the letters quickly whenever I wrote them 😉
That wasn’t a problem, of course, because he still got the exposure to letters and handwriting that I’d wanted.
We even turned it into a race to see if I was faster writing letters or he was faster painting over them 😉
There’s so much fun to be had with the simplest of materials, and learning about letters doesn’t have to include a desk of any kind!
