Hearts, Hearts, Hearts Emergent Reader

Have you seen the many wonderful emergent readers on The Measured Mom? E loves them as she’s learning to read! They’re just right for a quick read, don’t overwhelm her, but challenge her just right. They’re just long enough so that she can proudly say that she can read a whole book by herself 🙂 E enjoys these little books so much that she asks for new ones all the time – and she’s not shy about requesting themes 🙂

Here’s one I made for her at her request: Hearts, Hearts, Hearts! Emergent Reader, perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Is your child starting to read? Try this simple, colorful Hearts, Hearts, Hearts! Emergent Reader using mostly pre-primer sight words and offering an extra challenge on the last page! Perfect for your kindergartner's Valentine's Day!

What’s in the printable PDF file?

The printable consists of two pages that turn into an 8-page booklet. Print both pages on one sheet of paper back and front, then make a cut across the short way (horizontally when looking at the page in portrait orientation). Fold both halves of the paper in half in between the pages of the booklet and put one on top of the other, with the title and copyright pages on the outside of the booklet. If you wish, you can staple the pages together in the middle. {The Measured Mom has a video tutorial for putting the booklets together at the bottom of this post.}

There’s one sentence about hearts on each page of the booklet. They mostly use pre-primer sight words with a couple of CVC words and a couple of more challenging words thrown in on the last two pages. The images support the sentences and help your young reader figure out what he or she is reading.
